Lip Augmentation Basics
Plumper lips are desired by many women. Fortunately, even those with thin lips can now enhance the shape and fullness of their lips thanks to lip augmentation. In this procedure, either implant or fillers are used to add volume and shape to the lips, creating a fuller, more sensual looking mouth.
If you think lip augmentation is for you, you must first look at several different factors. Start by learning all that you can about the procedure itself. Next, you need to determine if you are a good candidate for this cosmetic procedure. Finally, understand that there are potential risks and limitations. By doing your due diligence on cosmetic surgery, you should be able to make the most out of your lip augmentation experience.
Preparing for the Lip Augmentation Procedure
Before the procedure begins, your doctor will start with an initial consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for lip augmentation. Your doctor should look through your medical records and discuss your expectations. Many surgeons recommend bringing example pictures with you in order to point out what you like as well as what you do not like. Your doctor will then be able to tell you if your goals are realistic and achievable.
If you’ve agreed to have lip augmentation performed, your doctor will give you a list of instructions to prepare.
Types of Lip Augmentation
The exact procedure will vary depending on the type of lip augmentation you have chosen. There are three kinds of lip surgery procedures: injections, surgical implants and fat transfer. In the injection method, substances such as fat or collagen will be injected into the lip in order to improve the shape and increase the fullness of the lips. While this procedure is the least invasive type of lip augmentation, the results typically last no more than three or four months.
With the surgical implant technique, small incisions are made at the corners or inside of the mouth. Next, the lip implants will be inserted through these incisions. Lip implants are a long term solution for plump lips.
The fat transfer method is a pretty new lip augmentation technique. The surgeon starts by taking fat that has been removed from another part of the body with liposuction. Afterwards, the fat is inserted into the lips to achieve plumper lips. Since the fat is from your body, your lips will accept it better thus producing natural looking results.
